Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Election is expected to be interesting as a flood of independent candidates are in the race. The independent candidates are from various walks of life, from a dabha wala to teacher and designer. The renowned political leaders are also competing but these candidates may prove to be the game changers of the poll. The major parties in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Election 2016 are Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) allied with the Akali Dal and Indian National Congress (INC). The campaign by BJP was quite impressive. On the other hand, Congress party made it more sensational by publicizing the photographs and videos of the dirty and grimy places in the region to attack the government. Near about 122 candidates will be in the tussle for the 26 wards.
The polling session was successfully conducted on the 18th of December 2016 from 8 am to 5pm. The Chandigarh Municipal Election Result will be declared on 20th December 2016. The Election Commission of India (ECI) released several notifications regularly for the candidates as well as for the voters. The target of ECI is to get a satisfactory percentage of voters. The political parties were asked to confine their activities to the model code for the elections. The parties were granted to campaign for their candidates without violation of any law or regulation. Chandigarh is a union territory and capital of both the states; Punjab and Haryana. It has a total of 26 wards which will be included in the polling session. There will be as many as 460 polling station set up to cover more than 5 lakhs of voters. Among these voters nearly two lakh forty thousand voters are female and 13 are the third genders.
